If anything says how morally bankrupt our Government is, it is this. Arresting pensioners for standing up to our Government who are complicit in war crimes.
Today we are all the Reverend Sue Parfitt - this is what speaking truth to power looks like
The Revolution will not be sanitised
They came with boots polished,
Like truth had a curfew.
Like peace was a threat
And an 83-year-old woman
Holding a cardboard plaque
Was a ticking time bomb.
She said:
“This isn't the action of a democratic nation.”
And the blue lights flashed like
Tel Aviv approval ratings.
She said:
“Why are we taking instructions from Israel?”
And suddenly the pavement got real hostile.
Suddenly the pensioner got profiled.
Suddenly the thought-crime got handcuffed.
No mask, no molotov,
Just wrinkles and righteous rage,
But the state said she was a terrorist
Because she refused to turn the page
On Gaza.
Refused to call complicity acceptable
While children were executed in food queues
Refused to be a good citizen
In a land where truth gets kettled
And dissent gets criminalised.
They say the revolution
Will be peaceful if you're polite.
They say the revolution
Will be televised if it flatters the white.
But the revolution will not be sanitised
For Ofcom or Starmer’s eyes.
It will not be funded by arms dealers
And lobbyist ties.
They locked her up
To protect the public from wisdom,
To make sure no grandmother
Teaches her grandkids
What democracy doesn’t look like.
Because a nation that fears
A woman with a placard
Is a nation that’s already lost the fight.
So sing it slow,
With a voice full of barbed wire and bassline,
Like Gil Scott Heron would,
With every syllable swinging
Like a truth-bomb jazz riff:
This ain't about law and order —
It’s about borders around thought.
It’s about protecting the killers
While the protestors get caught.
And you can cuff her hands,
But you can’t arrest the question.
You can cage her body,
But the can't erase the lesson.
Because if telling the truth is terrorism,
Then we’re all already guilty.
